Screenshots

Screenshots are very useful to show something on your computer to someone over the internet. However, a surprisingly few number of people know how to take them. This tutorial hopes to change that. All you need is Paint, a program that comes with Microsoft operating systems. The following list shows you how.

  1. Make sure what you want to take a screenshot of is on the current screen.
  2. Press "Print Screen" on your keyboard. It is above the arrow keys and insert, and to the left of scroll lock.
  3. Open Paint. Click Start, All Programs (Programs in 98), Accessories, and Paint.
  4. Click the "Select" icon. A picture of it is below.

    select
  5. Right click and select "Paste". What was on the screen when you pressed print screen should now appear on the paint canvas.
  6. Save the image as you would a normal picture. The default is .bmp, but you may want to save it as a .jpg since it is most commonly used.
  7. Screenshots are especially useful when you have an error you don't know how to deal with. You can upload them to a image hosting site and show them on forums related to the error your computer is generating. This is just one of the many useful functions of a screenshot.
